Getting to know... Me.

I have been thinking about this for a while, and at the beginning, I wanted this space to be a place to show off my work, but as I have found my way back into blogging, I realised that in order for a lot of what I do to make sense, people need to know who I am, and what inspires me, not only as a creative, but as a person. So, I thought, why not, get to know each other... But then I thought, how exactly do you show people who you are, through words on a screen. Its not such an easy feat, but, here goes. The first installment, of getting to know me.

Ask anyone about me, and they will tell you I am loud, I am more often than not singing, and I am always smiling. I prefer wearing bare feet over shoes in summer, and think no winters day is complete without a scarf or a cozy little hat. I think painted toenails are sexy and will wear red lipstick on any occasion. I am completely, and totally obsessed with music. As an only child, I found my siblings in the melodies of my favourite songs, and some of my best friends in their lyrics. I am connected to people because of their souls, not their faces. I believe that everyone has the right to education, healthcare, love and a place to call home. Call me a liberal if you must. I prefer to call me a human. I love avocado on toast, and berries in yoghurt. I take photos, of almost everything. I am learning to love the gym. I think childrens innocence is something that adults should run after, and that family is number one, even if they are confusing and frustrating at times. I write in journals, and buy even more. I prefer a few quiet beers with friends at home than a drunken night with strangers in a bar. Give me my choice of alcohol, and Jack Daniels will win everytime. I believe that we should learn from our mistakes, and trust our intuition. I think people take other people for granted and that we don't talk enough. I'm not afraid of speaking my mind, and standing up for what I believe in. I am a traveller, and I leave a tiny piece of my heart everywhere I go. I don't mind being alone most of the time. I think reading is important and imagination is even more so. I have a personal relationship with Jesus, but I will never tell you that you are wrong if you don't. I like late nights and later mornings. I love sitting in cafes for hours on end and watching the world pass by me. I like slowing down to take in the little things. I would do anything for the ones that I love. I am fiercely loyal and independent. I am learning to love myself a little more everyday.

I'm not sure you know me any better. But, that is a little bit of who I am.

Opps! Life has been busy this week and I have two of these to share with you, plus a few other things I have been working on. I'm not sure if it is just me, but time literally seems to be flying out the window, I mean I can not believe that we are in the last 8 days of february... what the! It doesn't feel right I tell you! I've got a few little things on the run and a few photo shoots coming up which I am excited about. I am also excited about some of the neat design work I have on the go, the new collection of Pinny Me Up! that I am working on {oooh first mention!} and a little guest post opportunity I have been given by a beautiful friend of mine. Stay tuned, things are about to get busy.

Laura & Sod

I think its easy to slip into the cliches of love when one is writing about a wedding, especially if you find yourself writing about them a lot, however, this is certainly not one of those occasions. When Laura emailed me back in June and asked me if I would photograph her wedding, I was so excited. Then her next email appeared in my inbox, detailing that the wedding was going to be themed around the Mad Hatters Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland, and my heart skipped a beat. I have known Laura since we were both just wee ones, so I knew this wedding was going to be one of a kind. And boy! Was I right! Talk about the sweetest, most adorable garden wedding out! The couple held the entire day at their home, and let me tell you it couldn't have been more perfect. From the handmade flowers, to the topsy turvy table settings, the teacup hairpieces {swoon} the costume, the brides stunning dress {made by her amazing Nan!} and how on earth could I forget the photobooth, complete with melting clock and cheshire cat, it was an absolute dream. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Oscarfono, thank you so much for letting me be part of such a special day.

Project 366 v.6

I took a few days off over the weekend to just do nothing. Nothing at all. I watched a movie {or three} I had a friend over for dinner, and I went to a Bridal Shower, and then that was it. It was a long weekend here in New Zealand, and I had the house to myself for all three days, which was just so nice. I got a little crafty again, making some props for a shoot coming up, and that was about the extent of my weekend. Oh and on Monday afternoon, I watched the Superbowl! {Thank you ESPN} Can I get a 'Go GIANTS' Woohoo! And that Half Time show. Dang Madonna. You are smoking.  But don't worry Tom Brady, you still are mighty mighty fine, and I'll be here waiting if you and Giselle don't work out!

In other news, I am excited to be able to tell you, that you could win one of my Pinny Me Up! aprons by scooting on over to the beautiful Micaela's blog Dolce Vita and enter her little giveaway. You get up to 7 chances to win, and the winner gets to choose any of the aprons from the Paper Doll collection! Now thats a good way to start the week!

Oh my, Incubus.

To say that I am an Incubus fan, is well, the understatement of the century. Wait. Make the the millennium. Its been a good ten years since my crush on this incredible band was formed, and I can still remember a friend of mine giving me their album Make Yourself, and telling me to listen to it because it would 'change my life.' Little did I know at the time that he was completely right. Because as cliche as it might sound, that is was this band has done, changed me. And now, ten years later, I was able to see them perform, live, for the second time. I'm actually sitting here trying to articulate the words to explain what it was like, but in all honesty, I am at a loss. To say it was brilliant doesn't seem enough. In fact, it makes it all sound ordinary and that is far from what last night was for me. And I think one of the best parts of it all, was that I was able to share the night with two of my best friends, who like me, are so invested, and so in love with this band. Maybe I sound a little crazy, but you know I think I'm ok with that.

The show was transcendent. As soon as the lights dimmed after what felt like the longest wait in history {ok so it was about 20 minutes after the support act ended} the band took the stage and opened with an unexpected, but totally welcome Privellege. I knew right then, that it was going to be a night of epic proportions. And, so it seems I was right. Not only did they play some of my all time favourite songs, there was an awesome mix from almost every album. I'm talking everything from Consequence to Vitamin, Pistola to Pardon Me, Anna Molly to Adolescents to Drive. Not to mention, If not now when, Have you ever, In the company of Wolves, A kiss to send us off, Love Hurts, Megalomanic, Are you in, Switchblade, Nice to know you, Wish you were here, The Warmth and of the course, the ever crowd pleasing final number, A certain Shade of Green. Im telling you folks. This show was out of this world. I just hope its not another 7 years, before I see them again.

And with all that said, I come back to an Incubus lyric to sum up the evening. "I haven't felt the way, I feel today, in so long its hard for me to specify." Thank you Incubus. For everything.
